Module 6: Strategic Imperative for Diversity

Increasingly, diversity and inclusion are becoming strategic business drivers that have a direct impact on organizational effectiveness, profitability, and reputation. Accordingly, the top three reasons for investing in diversity and inclusion are improving employee engagement, serving customers more effectively, and increasing organizational innovation and agility. Recent studies quantify the "diversity dividend" indicating highly diverse companies appear to excel financially due to their talent recruitment efforts, strong customer orientation, increased employee satisfaction, and improved decision making.

This module will discuss these objectives:

  • Linking the impact of diversity and inclusion to key organizational goals to identify critical gaps that impact the bottom line
  • Assessing and reflecting on self as an agent of change within a complex organization or system
  • Assessing an organization’s culture, history, and objectives with respect to diversity and inclusion
  • Collection of data and developing meaningful metrics and reports for executive leaders and staff
  • Applying a systems-thinking approach to analyzing, developing, implementing, and/or critiquing diversity and inclusion initiatives, programs, metrics, and opportunities
  • Making feasible recommendations to create, expand, revise, or discontinue an organization’s diversity and inclusion programs
  • Messaging and communicating diversity and inclusion initiatives to key stakeholders including staff, executive teams, customers, and vendors.
