SQL is the standard language to query and analyze Big Data in very large and parallel data centers. In this course, we will use the free trial of Google BigQuery as it is (in my opinion) the fastest Data Warehouse in the world with a very competitive and cheap price per query. BigQuery is a close cousin of Dremel, the internal tool at Google that power most of its data, including Google Searches.
In this training, we will have a quick introductory tour of BigQuery, before learning the key elements of SQL: its syntax (e.g. SELECT, FROM, WHERE, HAVING, GROUP BY), its aggregated functions (e.g. AVG, MIN, MAX), and early glimpse of slightly more advanced topics (e.g. upload data, sub-queries).
We will play with training datasets, as well as public datasets from Google BigQuery, for example the list of all Wikipedia changes or the list of all the words used by Shakespeare.
As a non-technical business, project, or team leader, you will get your hands on the basics of SQL - the language to query and analyze data. In the end, our aim is not that you are able to create SQL from scratch, but that you are able to understand what a simple SQL does and how to adjust it for your needs. You will find that SQL is actually not very complicated and that you can run basic SQL queries by yourself to pull data without being dependent on your team of analysts.
Indeed, the course will provide you with documentation containing a large set of examples from which you can pick for your own use cases. Moreover, by enabling all non-technical business, project, and team leaders to run their own simple analysis, you free up the analytics teams to execute more complex analysis and deliver more value-added insights.
